About Forensic Cannibalism

Forensic Cannibalism is a self-contained internet project that aims to be better than the real thing. Users can add their own pages with minimal restrictions. Rules are specifically chosen to prioritize freedom and creativity while preventing cashgrab goyslop.

Forensic Cannibalism was born from an attempt to make an intentionally shitty personal website and an old scrapped plan to make a self-contained internet that I could access offline. Those were combined to make an experience that could be described as an uncensored close-knit version of Neocities.

This feeling can also be referenced with the definition of forensic cannibalism. Forensic cannibalism is "the act of metaphorically defiling the grave of an idea in order to satisfy morbid cravings for obsolete comfort." For example, someone making their site Y2K themed despite never experiencing that time period and as a result making it noticably innacurate is an act of forensic cannibalism. The site has very often, ironically, tried to recreate this idea. The alpha and beta versions went across forensically cannibalized styles of 90's plaintext sites, 2000's frutiger aero themes, and detailed versions entirely lacking CSS and JS.
